Art Swansea is an inclusive safe space for all people. Maintaining that is not without its challenges especially in respect to individual self-expression. As such we need to have a code of conduct for the benefit of everyone who accesses Art Swansea sessions.
The short version: be nice, be supportive, be kind.
The long version:
- We have to ensure that everyone that accesses Art Swansea is able to do so safely. There may be some rules that you don’t agree with and that is fine. You have the choice of deciding whether any specific rule is an insurmountable obstacle to you accessing Art Swansea or not.
General participation
- Respect peoples boundaries
- Understand that others may not wish to engage with you for any reason, and that you are not owed an interaction. Some people are not being rude or snubbing you, they may not be comfortable with social interactions. Respect their space
- Do not comment or offer advice on any other person’s work unless they specifically request it
- Be mindful of our peg system:
Red peg – that person does not want any feedback/interaction at this time
Orange peg – that person only wants feedback/interaction from Art Swansea team members, or will request feedback from specific people
Green peg – happy to chat
Violence/Aggression
- Art Swansea has a zero tolerance policy to violence and aggression either physically or verbally to or between members, participants, or visitors
Smoking/Vaping
- All Art Swansea venues are no smoking and no vaping areas. The Dyfatty Community Centre venue is no smoking or vaping on the property which means if you wish to smoke or vape you must go off the property (on to the street). You must not smoke or vape in the garden area or outside the building
- If you would like help with giving up smoking then free stop smoking support is available through your GP or call the free Help Me Quit helpline on 0800 085 2219
Intoxicating Substances
- No alcohol or illicit drugs are permitted at Art Swansea venues or sessions
- It should go without saying, but just to be clear being intoxicated through drugs or alcohol will result in you not being able to access the session and may result in you being barred from participating in Art Swansea events in future
- Support is available for those with substance abuse issues via your GP or contact SANDS 73/74 Mansel Street Swansea SA1 5TR 01792 472002
Facilities/Property
- Return things as you found them
- If something is not yours you need to ask permission to touch, use, or take it
- If you make a mess then you are responsible for cleaning it up
- Materials provided during sessions are on loan to you for that session and must be returned at the end. The exclusion to this is artwork you create – that is yours
- Deliberately damaging anything not belonging to you will result in restriction of your access to Art Swansea
- If you use the toilet, make sure you flush it, clean any mess, and wash your hands
