Where to start…
Might as well jump straight to 2024. The cost of living is through the roof and AI is threatening to rip the soul out of all creative endeavours. It’s kind of the perfect storm for art and David Nicol has been watching. Having seen the gap in social equality widen with no sign of it narrowing, one of the largest impacts has been on the arts, and accessibility to the arts by the “working classes”.
Art in general seems to be constantly under attack, with funding cuts, and the erosion of the importance of human creativity over squeezing every little bit of profit out of the planet with no real concern for the humans at the sharp end. There were all these threads that needed pulling together to create a solution. And that’s how Art Swansea came in to being.
Empowerment through art is our motto. By giving people greater access to create, explore, and develop their creativity, Art Swansea will meet our goal of encouraging the personal growth and development of those who access our services.
So that’s the history so far. Here’s to writing, painting, and sculpting our future.
