Art Swansea – The Beginning

Jeff Koons (Jeffrey Lynn Koons b.21/05/1955) is an American visual artist who creates “pop culture” pieces. He’s incredibly successful, but not without his controversies, especially around the concept of “what is art?”.

I recently saw a clip of an interview featuring him and it encapsulated the ethos of what Art Swansea is about. Here’s the clip and the transcript:

“Being an artist. Wanting to make something. How do we start with a blank canvas? I like to start with an idea. The art is never in the painting that you’re looking at or the surface of the sculpture. The art is inside you. When the lights at the museum go off, nothing’s happening there, but within you everything exists.” Jeff Koons.

What we’re aiming for at Art Swansea is to give people the opportunity to explore and create art. Engaging with art can be an incredibly cathartic way of exploring and developing yourself as well as connecting with others.
